  • AI recreates Minesweeper

Minesweeper is complex enough in its rule set that it needs a little bit of thought in order to program, whoever, it’s not so complex that it needs extra libraries and all sorts of fancy programming tricks. Researchers gave four different AI code assistant instructions to recreate the game, and each delivered different results.

  • 45×45, a game

I don’t think this game has a name, but judging by its sparse, direct instructions to make 45 groups of 45 individual items, I’m going to call it 45×45. Part puzzle, trivia, logic, and clicking, you group individual items by a genre or topic. For example, you need to make a group for cheese, flowers, trees, and more. You’ll definitely need to play this on the desktop with a big screen to make your life a little bit easier.

It’s such a simple concept, but entirely immersive as you hunt for items to group together. A few improvements I would make would be to be able to move the little buttons around and also to color code them. So that once you find a certain category, you can go back and spot it easily.

  • Dataguessr

Dataguessr is a clever, little web game where are you need to put a set of facts in the correct order. Mostly, the topics tend to relate to populations in certain countries. What makes it challenging is the margins between items are slim, like splitting hairs

  • 368 Chickens

368 Chickens is a deceptively simple, addicting tile matching game. In a 6×6 grid, you attempt to create matches of three or more of four different chickens. My best score in 71.

  • Magnet Chess

Magnet Chess is an addictive web game where you drop different size and strength magnetic on to a board. You attempt to dispose of your pieces within 15 seconds without causing two or more pieces from connecting. First person to get rid of all their pieces wins or the first person to reach zero (0) loses.

As you level up, you receive different shaped pieces and differ board configurations that drive different strategies for placement.

  • Quordle

Merriam Webster hosts their own Wordle clone, Quordle. The usual Wordle rules apply, but solve for 4 words at once in 9 attempts. Those first two or three guesses are key to knowing what vowels and common consonants you’re working with. As you can see, I didn’t solve this one. *sad trombone noises*

  • Homemade Angry Birds game

A mother made a homemade variation of Angry Birds with the birds made out of various household items. Angry Birds Live, she calls it.

I used a tennis ball for the red bird, a ping-pong ball for the blue bird, modeling clay for the yellow bird, an Easter egg for the chicken, and a black dodge ball for the bomb bird. I had an old set of cardboard blocks that they never really used, and they were perfect. I printed out pictures of the pigs on labels and stuck them on paper bags.
